The favor gained in refitting your windows

January 2nd, 2010

With the state of the economy today, people scrutinize carefully how they spend their mone. It is obviouse because there is rampant fear as well as uncertainty.  If there is something that people want they are holding off on buying it now more then ever. But one important factor that people should not scrimp on is getting their windows restored.  Although it will require money to be spent it really will be an investment in your home.  So let’s take a look at the benefits of getting your windows replaced.

First and foremost, the only time you need to replace your windows is to make it double paned and energy efficient. The reasoning behind this is that before, a lot of windows were single paned. This is horrendous for energy efficiency.  It didn’t keep the home cool in the summer.  It also didn’t keep the home warm in the winter.Naturally this in turn will lead to higher energy billes.  Well the newer windows solved that problem.

Correct, new windows provide savings in energy.  So although you need to spend money when getting them installed, it saves on energy bills.  This will end up saving a lot of money in the long run.  My clients of my San Diego replacement windows company are always surprised to see how big of an energy savings it is.

Another prime benefit to having your windows replaced is its added asset to your homes value. In today’s age of decreasing home prices, providing newer windows can actually skyrocket your home’s value. This is basically dependent on the fact that people are more knowledgeable about the savings in energy.  Plus with all the environmental issues people always want to save energy.  That is a key selling point for clients of my San Diego glass company business.

So as you have read although there is a lot of money involved in installing new windows, in the end there are a lot of benefits.  If you do decide to get them it will be a wise investment.

November 6th, 2009

If you want to take advantage of the tax credit passed by congress recently then take a few minutes to browse through this article. I will mention some important facts to consider when dealing with a contractor.

I have previously shared on various topics such as:window replacement companies, energy saving replacement windows and window replacement scams.

Some replacement window companies will not assist you understand the tax credit benefit should you decide to replace your windows. This article has been written to try and help you understand the concept and to be in a better position to deal with any contractor.

The idea of giving tax credit benefits to people who fit energy efficient windows has always existed. However, recently the benefit was tripled to 30% of the cost of an energy efficient window. Whilst it also applies to doors my focus is only on windows for now.

What this implies is that when picking out the replacement windows for your home you need to pick carefully. normally replacement window companies play a significant role in helping homeowners in this regard so its always best to get the right contractor.

Some of the you should know include the specific conditions that qualify a window as energy efficient. This includes, the new energy start certification, the U-Factor, Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC), NFRC Rating and more. NFRC stands for National Fenestration Rating Council. One thing I should statehere is that if a window does not have the NFRC sticker then in most cases it is not energy efficient.

When dealing with replacement window companies or contractors, always request them to show you the sticker. If they fail to do so don’t buy their recommended window and do not employ their services. There are many more conrtacrors that you can find and hire. So to make use the tax credit benefit in 2009 you need to be a smart shopper.

Storm Windows Made From Aluminum

October 28th, 2009

Do you want to do an aluminium storm window repair? Well here is a short but useful article that will provide a review and a step-by-step guide to how you can go about doing this.

Previously I shared on topics like: tax credit window replacement 2009, rate best replacement windows and what is the best window companies and today I will expand on this briefly.

There are various ways in which you carry out an aluminium storm window repair. I will provide you with what has worked for me and others. I have talked but of course you can get more opinions from other experts. I recommend you read the article to the end before deciding on anything.

The reason why I point out the differing opinions is because I understand that not all windows get damaged in the same manner hence not all the repairing information will be standard. For example some may have damaged glazing, scratches or cracks and others may have problems with the sash, which makes them to have some sliding problems.

below are some few ideas you can consider for your aluminium storm window repair.

they might be scratched, cracked or do they have broken glazing? In this case in order to fix the aluminium storm windows you might have to remove the storm sash or the screen. Then remove the glazing, which is usually glass or acrylic plastic.

You may find that the corners are fastened by metal keys in this case you might have to remove the screws to remove some of the corners – one or maybe two. If you discover that they are crimped then an awl can be used to extract the vinyl splints that are used to fasten the glazing.

Once you have completed all that you can then fit the new glazing (2mm). Just confirm that you make it smaller than the inside frame dimension in order to enable some contraction and expansion. Just put the glazing vinyl on the glass and then fit it into the frame. Then put together the corers. when you are dealing with crimps frames just lay the glass within the frame and just press the vinyl weather seal so that it clicks in to the joint between the frame and glass.
